CONNECTORS OF ADDITION

At the beginning of a sentence: In addition, moreover, furthermore, besides.

At the end of a sentence: As well, too.

And = As well as

Also: Before verbs / after TO BE

CONNECTORS OF CONTRAST

BUT: coordina dos frases independientes (He came to the party but he didn’t enjoy it)

(ON THE ONE HAND) / ON THE OTHER HAND. Introducen dos ideas, frases, párrafos… en contraste. Puede aparecer sólo la segunda.

WHILE, WHEREAS = Mientras que

ALTHOUGH, EVEN THOUGH, THOUGH = Aunque (+ frase)

HOWEVER, NEVERTHELESS = Sin embargo (+ frase)

Although I was tired, I continued working

I was tired. However, I continued working.

IN SPITE OF / DESPITE

+ Nominal group: In spite of the rain, we went on walking

+ Gerund: Despite being terribly ill, he finished his book

+ the fact that + sentence: In spite of the fact that we arrived late, we could get in the cinema

Linkers, linkers, linkers and more linkers

CAUSALES: Recuerda que because of, due to y owing to son muy parecidos y que because, since y as también lo son (¡cuidado con el orden de las frases con estos últimos!)

CONCESIVAS: Recuerda que although va con frases y despite / in spite of van con grupos nominales.

CONSECUTIVAS: So con frases y so... that y such... that, cada uno con lo suyo.

FINALES: To, in order to, so as to + infinitivo / so that + sentence / for + noun or gerund. Todos con estructuras distintas.
